What's funny, I I also find myself buying more Marvel Legends, even though they typically have inferior sculpts... why? because they can just do *so* much, and I actually have *fun* with them.
Only fun I had, with say, Matrix was *Maybe* trying to get Naoimi's glasses to stay put! [img]wink.gif[/img]
Tonami's Hercouloids are an excellent example.. they don;t have super articulated joints, but they have some "fun factor" built in.. Gloop n Gleep have removable eyes, and they can be put in the GITD clay included with them, that actually can be stored INSIDE the figures!
The best one though Tundro's rolling head bobbing missle firing action.
Those diorama they come with are awesome as well.. they are really cheap, but put together, they make a great display "playset".
I was really hoping the Mcfarlane Dragons would rock, but it sounds like they are smallish, and are literaly statues.
You know how MANY friggin dragon statues are already out there? TONS!
We'll get the dragons, based on sculpting alone, but they will quickly get buried on a shelf somewhere with other dragon statues, and will just become dust collectors.
Why we are even bothering to discuss this is beyond me though.. Mcfarlane is slowly but surely moving away from action figures, and moving into mini collectable statues,and nothing we say will really change that at all.
This last year was *really* bad for Mcfarlane "action figures", but was great for "mcFarlane statues"
I think out of the whole year, I bought maybe 5 total Mcfarlane figs, and half of those were at clearance prices.
But that's ok.. that left PLENTY of cash for other companies action figures!

As I'm sure you well know, Steve, stores typically DO buy into "brand" licenses far more then "no name" toys. And sales reports are of volume sold to stores..not what actually ends up on the clearance rack.
How did the original Shrek line do, Steve? While they didn't have "super" articulation, they did have a decent amount for posability.

as for Onimusha not selling, hell, I love most of 'em, but waited till they hit clearance prices.
and only a couple of them had GOOD articulation.
I still think Oda Nobunaga (or whatever) is one of the coolest figs McF has ever made.

also, it seems that people think I'm wanting to do away with the statue-type figs.
I'm not.
but I can't see how having ONE well-articulated fig per line would really hurt sales...

fr'instance, if the new Tremor fig was articulated like Mezco's Sammael(from Hellboy), I would have grabbed one in an instant.
Funny you mention Tremor.. I hemmed and haw'd about him, but also passed on him, because of the lack of articulation.
I figured I'd just pick him up on clearance when I see him cheaper.
That said, I'll probably pick up the whole Infernal Parade set when I see a good set price for them... they just look cool.
There's a place for both mini statues, AND articulated figures.
It's be nice to see more then 1 a year though...

I mean, the last articulated Spawn line was Viking Age...

oh, I guess Mutations was too, but that was more of a "monsters" line, IMO...(which I wouldn't mind seeing more of)
obviously, I'm not counting the Reborn stuff, since they already existed. (I'd also love to see more of these. pretty well every fig, for that matter...)
is a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio too much to ask?
or one fig per line?

...aaaaaaaaaah, so what's your point? I'm comparing apples to apples. You seem to be throwing oranges in there. I compared 3 Spawn cover lines to 2 Spawn lines and a video game. The cover lines sold more, period.
...and not because of articulation or the lack there of, because they're cool!
...when you pass something up that's cool just because you can't twist it around like a pretzel, that's like biting your nose to spite your face.
...don't let the clearance bin fool you either, that's a very small percentage of product.
...if the product wasn't making the stores money, they wouldn't be ordering it like they are.
